About Mick

Calm. Patient.
Properly safety-focused.

Mick is an RSA-approved motorcycle instructor. Midlands Motorcycle Training is a small, one-to-one school — no group lessons, no pressure — serving learners across Offaly, Tipperary and Laois, including Tullamore, Portlaoise, Birr, Edenderry, Roscrea and Mountmellick. Helping learners become safer, more confident riders.

Whether it's a nervous first-timer on an IBT, someone stepping up through progressive access, or a rider polishing off pre-test lessons, Mick teaches the same way: calmly, one skill at a time, and always with safety first. If you don't own a bike yet, a properly prepared school motorcycle is available so training or your test day isn't held up.

  • RSA-approved IBT across AM, A1, A2 and A licence categories
  • One-to-one lessons — every session is just you and Mick
  • Calm, plain-English coaching that suits nervous beginners
  • Safety-first: controls, observation, road positioning, hazards

What to expect

What happens on a lesson day

A calm, structured session — same shape whether it's your first IBT module or a final pre-test lesson.

  1. Step 1

    Arrival & chat

You meet Mick at the agreed training area. He talks through your experience, nerves and what you want to get from the session — no assumptions.

  2. Step 2

    Gear & safety briefing

Proper gear matters: an approved motorcycle helmet, a motorcycle jacket, gloves, protective trousers and sturdy boots. Mick will talk you through the appropriate protective gear for your training and make sure you understand what is suitable before getting on the bike.

  3. Step 3

    Bike walk-around

Controls, switches, brakes, clutch and balance — explained clearly on the training bike (or your own bike, if it suits your licence category).

  4. Step 4

    On-bike coaching

One skill at a time in a controlled area first, then building up. Observation, positioning, junctions and hazard awareness are woven in from the start.

  5. Step 5

    Debrief & next steps

At the end you'll know exactly what went well, what to work on, and what the next lesson or module should focus on before your test.

FAQ

Common questions, straight answers

Absolutely. Many learners who train with Mick have never sat on a motorcycle before. Every IBT starts in a controlled area, at your pace, one skill at a time. Nervous is normal — you're in the right hands.

No. Mick has school bikes available for AM, A1, A2 and A categories, so you can start training or take your test without owning a bike. You can also bring your own bike if it suits your licence category.

Yes. Every lesson is just you and Mick — no group classes, no shared bikes. You get the full session and the pace is set by you, not by a group.

Yes. Under Irish law, every learner motorcyclist must complete an RSA-approved IBT course before riding on public roads. Riding without it is illegal and uninsured.

IBT generally takes approximately 16–18 hours to complete, delivered across the four RSA modules. It's typically spread over 2–3 days, but Mick can adjust to suit your schedule.

You will need an approved motorcycle helmet, a motorcycle jacket, gloves, protective trousers and sturdy boots. Mick will discuss your gear with you when arranging your lesson and make sure what you have is suitable before you get on the bike.

Yes — weekend, evening and weekday slots are available, but weekends fill up fast. Book early via the form or WhatsApp.

The recommended option is a two-hour pre-test lesson. It costs €100 when using your own motorcycle. Use of Mick's motorcycle costs an additional €50, bringing the total to €150. A shorter one-hour lesson is available for €60 using your own motorcycle, or €90 in total when using Mick's motorcycle. The one-hour option is generally not recommended because it provides less preparation time.

Yes. Mick provides fully prepared, insured school bikes for test day. Price is on request based on your test centre and category.

AM for mopeds, A1 for 125cc, A2 for mid-power, A for unrestricted. See the Licence Guide above or message Mick — he'll advise.
